The enduring dangers of the Republican party

While many assume that the election of Barack Obama will “destroy” the Republican party and stem the tide of TDOA, I know better.  My greatest fear is this sense of complacency will cause us to “take our eye off the ball”.  While this was an electoral landslide, 46% of the voters in the election voted for John McCain.  As such, TDOA will continue to monitor the activities of the people who still believe in the Republican ideals.

Hannity and Limbaugh believe that the economic woes of our country should be blamed on….Barack Obama.  I’m telling you right now, get used to the phrase “The Obama Recession”.  Your going to hear it at the 2012 Republican convention.

According to Newt Gingrich (yes, he’s back.  Coming again in 2012?) protestors of Prop. 8 in CA are part of a “gay and secular facism“.  …yes, “facism” is the Republican’s favorite word and they use it to describe anything they don’t like/don’t understand.

The Republican congressman from Georgia calls Obama a “Marxist” and compares him to “Hitler” .  I’ve linked to his apology, because most right-wing radio hosts are saying the comments were taken out of context.  Broun’s apology doesn’t mention being taken out of context.  More importantly this incident raises the questions; should we be concerned that elected officials don’t know the difference between and Marxist and a Facist?

If you don’t watch Rachel Maddow, you need to start.  She’s reports nightly on the tidal wave of legislation that GW is enacting using Executive Privlege.  Most of these deal with relaxing environmental regulations, but there’s also been talk over pre-emptive pardons for entire divisions of governmment.  Fortunately, Obama has a team of advisors reviewing these and will likely use the Congressional Review Act of 1996 to quickly dismiss them.  Pay attention!  GW’s not gone yet…

Book Deals: Joe the Plumber (who may end up with his picture on our masthead at the rate he’s going) is not going away.  I must admit, even I underestimated TDOA by thinking we’d never hear of this guy again after the election.  You don’t get a million dollar book deal if there isn’t a belief that someone will buy it.  And along the same lines: are you eight times more interested in reading a Palin book?  Late night talk show writers must just be salivating at the material that’s going to come out from that book.
