Republicans continue march toward stupidity

An Open Letter to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Michelle Malkin

In a time like this, when tempers are riding high and many Americans are close to panic about their jobs and finances, you have a special responsibility to consider the accuracy of what you say and the consequences of inflammatory and erroneous statements. In the last few days, manifestly distorting my words and pulling them out of context, you have accused me of wanting to exclude white males from jobs generated by the stimulus package. Anyone who takes a moment to examine what I actually said and wrote knows this to be an absurd misrepresentation of my position (see this). My goal is and has always been to create as many opportunities for as wide a group as possible, and not exclude anyone from access. There is and has never been any ambiguity about this. The hate mail I have received since your broadcast suggests that the mischievous consequences of your demagoguery are potentially dangerous, in addition to being destructive of rational and constructive political discourse. I urge you to take responsibility for your words. Words and ideas have real world consequences, and you have demonstrated a cavalier disregard for both.

Ooooh snap!  I don’t usually post an entire quote from someone, but I could pass this one up.  Yep, that’s the former treasury secretary.

When you have a campfire, it’s important to make sure that you do a good job of extinguishing the fire once you’re done with said fire.  In this scenario, the Republican Party was a roaring inferno for the last eight years.  Obama’s victory and the overwhelming gains made in Congress where like a giant fire extinguisher, ending the party for the Republican….Party.  It would be perfectly understandable and perhaps even wise to move on and focus on rebuilding the country.  But like the campfire in this scenario, there are still a few teeny, tiny burning embers.  It’s wonderful to know that Obama’s minions are attempting to stamp out every last burning ash.  But it’s not limited to the minions.

On Friday, Rush Limbaugh actually said of Obama, “”We are being told we have to hope he succeeds, that we have to bend over and grab our ankles… because his father was black, because he’s the first black president, we’ve got to accept this.”.  Trust me Rush, nobody wants to see you bent over and grabbing your ankles (when was the last time you saw your ankles, btw?).  I would have expected a scathing rebuttal from Obama’s Press Secretary, but instead Obama does the right thing.

The president responded with a clear signal that he is prepared to ram the bill through without the bipartisan consensus he promised to construct, telling Republican leaders from the House of Representatives: “I won. I’m the president.”

He then told them to break free of the confrontational mindset epitomised by Mr Limbaugh, the highest paid talk show host in America. “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,” Mr Obama said.(via The London Times)

Awesome.

Of course, Rush had to respond and of course his response was even more ridiculous than the last.

“Now this is the great unifier,” Limbaugh told listeners just after noon today. “This is the man who’s going to unify everybody and usher in a new era of bi-partisanship and love.” “I think Obama wants me to fail,” Limbaugh said. “President Obama, by telling you and the elected Republicans in Washington to not listen to me because I am not how things get done in Washington, he has said that he wants me to fail.”(via The Boston Herald)

This is the same idiot who when asked for a 400 word article about his expectations of an Obama administration responsed with, “I hope he fails”.  It’s like arguing with a 7th grader.  It’s also obvious that if the Democrats want to completely extinguish this fire, it shouldn’t be terribly difficult.
